wellies!
i absolutely LOVED the "wellies" post,unfortunately whoever left this post,didn't put a link out for comments,
which is a shame as post was in my opinion,witty and informative,although as a current "Female Welly Wanging" champion,(i have the Golden Boot to prove this) i do dispute the fact where "Welly Wanging" originated from.As like alot of things,originally it started south( i was told Kent),but proved to be very popular "up north" where "Tossing-the-wellington-boot" proved to be quite a mouthful,and was shortened to "Welly Wanging"(Wanging being an old northern word for throwing/tossing)hence the name we have now.It is also popular in Wales(where i won my title)and is still popular at fetes etc.It's great also because there are no age/size restrictions so ANYONE can join in.
If you ever get the chance to take part in an event,give it ago!,it really is GREAT FUN,no "sporting ability!" required,it's all down to the rhythm..........!!! When i was younger i loved my wellies,and my 1st.pair were bright red,and as also i loved "Paddington Bear" my brothers used to call me that."Paddington" must be one of the most recognizable world-wide "famous" characters that wear wellies! Incidently,something else i was told was that the Duke of Wellington allegedly never made any money from his "invention" as he didn't think they would catch on! I'm putting this snippet in,but cannot attest to its authenticity!
